Our Journey:

Starling is a multidisciplinary media company based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We serve the surrounding East Coast and beyond. We constantly travel for projects as necessary. Photo, Video, and Music are our tools, and we couldn't be more thrilled to bring our lifelong expertise to you to fit your specific needs. We frequently offer combinations of our different disciplines to get the job done. This dynamic range is what allows us to pivot with ease in how we work for the client. Whatever the need, we’ve got you covered. Media is fundamentally what underpins the hyper-digitized world we live in and it is our core mission is to provide the vision to capture life in a way that lasts.

 

We’ve never left our hometown. The city of Philadelphia has continually been the best inspiration for us since early in our artistic journey. Our passion is about capturing life: the images, the sounds, the emotions. The richness of the history here has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration from the neighborhoods to the people, to the food and music, there is a real abundance of raw culture here. 

 

While photography is a strength, it is music where we built our foundation.  Spending our formative years obsessed over playing instruments. We spent our early professional lives heavily involved in the music industry working for Grammy winning composers and producers. We’ve played at Citizen Bank Park, Boston Symphony Hall, the Brooklyn Mirage, Union Transfer, Theater of the Living Arts, etc. The idea for Starling developed out of our experiences in the industry, we saw a need for something that towed the line between these different mediums and could ‘see the whole picture’ so-to-speak.

 

Every project is different, but regardless of what we are working on, our goal is to elevate it to the highest level it can be.  Whether Starling is spending time photographing events, businesses, or weddings, we’re always thinking of how to elevate what we do and tailor it to your wants and needs.  Our team communicates with the client to find how we can leverage our unique approach to fully develop what the client is trying to achieve.

 

The most basic point we start from is creativity. Our creative approach is initially realized through capturing authenticity. We look towards the great documenters of the times, often practicing working towards something closer to a photojournalistic sensibility. This is achieved through rapid continual capture throughout the duration of a shoot, during which the most real and authentic moments are documented. In certain cases, our photographic approach is the mindset drawn from the great painters who sought to frame the photo tirelessly to fit a deeply rooted artistic vision intrinsic to them. In this sense we provide incredibly detailed edits to the photos we submit, as a great painter will apply brush strokes over nascent versions of the more realized vision. We see utilizing technology as a means to most accurately come to capture what is most authentically there.

 

We meticulously curate music to enhance the emotional depth of both our events and videos. Working under multiple Grammy-Award winning composers and producers we have developed a deep expertise in how to craft music for any setting. One co-founder, mentored by a Pulitzer-Winning composer, personally arranges all string compositions, ensuring bespoke musical experiences. We bring out the highest level of musicians, from top institutions such as Juilliard and the Curtis Institute, providing the highest possible level of music for every occasion.

Everything from our approach, and philosophy, to our ongoing dialogue with clients and our ability to adapt on the fly, everything we do is tailored to help tell your story.
